Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is one of the great European cities on the banks of the famous Danube river. But the proximity of other famous European capitals, such as Vienna, Budapest and Prague, has hidden Bratislava's potential as a destination of interest for many travellers for many years. The main attraction of Bratislava is its centre and old town, whose size and distribution make it very cozy and comfortable to visit. Since its inclusion in the European Union in 2004, Slovakia has been gradually opening up to tourism and Bratislava has ceased being the ugly duckling and has become a true Swan of the Danube.
