Brandýs nad Labem is located in the Prague-East district on an elevated terrace above the Elbe River, in which a deep gorge with steep slopes was carved by the Vinořský Brook, which flows into the river. Since 1992 the historic centre of the town has been an urban conservation area. There are many cultural monuments in the town, such as the statue of St. Wenceslas with a banner, the Gothic church of St. Peter, the Baroque deanery and the bell tower of the Catholic church from 1773, the Jewish cemetery founded in 1568-one of the oldest in the Czech Republic, the Jewish synagogue, Brandýs castle with a garden and many others.
