Pardubice is a university and statutory town in the Pardubice district in eastern Bohemia. It is situated in the eastern part of the Polabie region at the confluence of the Elbe and Chrudimka rivers, approximately 100 kilometres east of Prague and 20 kilometres south of Hradec Králové. The town has many national (e.g.: Pardubice Castle with fortifications) and cultural monuments (e.g.: Church of the Annunciation, Church of St. Bartholomew, Church of St. John the Baptist, new Jewish cemetery and many others. The town has been famous for the production of gingerbread since the 16th century.
